Objective
The objective of HonestyJar was clear: give honesty boxes, cake sheds and other self-service stalls a simple way to accept card and mobile payments, without losing the informal, trust-based feel that makes them special. The platform needed to work for tiny one-person stalls through to clubs and community spaces, with no hardware, low friction, and minimal technical setup.
Solution
AppEDGE designed and built HonestyJar on Bubble, using Stripe Connect to handle secure payments and payouts. Stall owners create a location, print a QR code and can start taking payments in minutes.
The payment page is deliberately simple: customers scan the QR code, choose or enter an amount, see a clear breakdown of what goes to the stall and what goes in fees, then pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Organisers can choose whether the buyer covers HonestyJar’s fee or whether it is absorbed into the amount received.
Behind the scenes, HonestyJar manages multiple locations, currencies and payout settings per organiser. Funds flow through Stripe Connect, with deferred onboarding so new users can test the platform and collect payments before completing full payout setup.
Key Features
- Built for honesty stalls
Payment flows, wording and QR codes are all tailored to honesty boxes, cake sheds and self-service stalls, rather than generic e-commerce. - Flexible fee handling
Organisers can decide per location whether buyers cover the HonestyJar fee or whether it is taken from the amount received, keeping pricing transparent and flexible. - Multiple locations and simple reporting
Each QR code is tied to a specific location, making it easy for organisers to see how different boxes or stalls are performing and reconcile payouts. - Fast to iterate, secure at the core
Built in Bubble for rapid product iteration, with Stripe Connect handling secure payments, payouts and compliance, allowing HonestyJar to evolve quickly while staying robust.
Launch and Feedback
HonestyJar launched initially with a small set of honesty stalls and community setups, including cake sheds and informal club refreshment areas. Early adopters highlighted how easy it was to get started—printing a QR code and taking payments the same day—without committing to hardware or long onboarding forms.
Feedback from stall owners has focused on three points: the simplicity of the customer experience, the flexibility around who pays the fee, and the reassurance of using Stripe for payouts. This combination has made HonestyJar an attractive option for small operators who want modern payments without losing the honesty-box feel.
Conclusion
HonestyJar shows how a focused product, built on Bubble and Stripe Connect, can serve a very specific real-world use case: cashless payments for honesty stalls. By combining low-friction setup, tailored payment flows and flexible fee options, the platform gives small organisers a professional way to accept card and wallet payments while keeping things informal and human.
For AppEDGE, HonestyJar is a strong example of using no-code tools to bring a niche payment concept to life quickly, then refine it in the real world with genuine users.
